Winfield lies east of us along the same line of country, so the drive never goes near Wichita. Cowley County couples get their Kansas license at the courthouse in Winfield, and it is good here without any transfer. Kansas does not care which county issued it.
Which marriage license do we need for a wedding here?
A Kansas marriage license is issued by any Kansas district court clerk and is valid anywhere in the state. The county that issues it does not have to be the county you marry in. Kansas applies a three-day waiting period between application and issue, and the license is good for six months. The fee runs about $85 as of 2026.
